Being a driving instructor

Some people laugh at me for being a driving instructor. I don't know if it is because I have got a degree in Applied Management Science and they think I should be doing something else, I don't care if people laugh at me.

It is a really great job. The vast majority (virtually all) of my customers I really enjoy teaching them to drive. I don't get bored. I am self employed and the freedom of that is priceless.

It is great teaching people that want to learn something. As opposed to teaching in secondary schools for instance. I really wanted to be a driving instructor but I did not foresee that it would be as good as this.

I do Peterborough, Whittlesey and Oundle and everything in between. King's Cliffe is one of the most beautiful villages I have ever seen. The road from Oundle to King's Cliffe just shows how amazing the countryside is round here.

You meet so many interesting people. It is great that there is such a variety of different people round here.

When I was at Pearl you made friends and then occasionally you would be good friends with someone and get to know them really well, go on holiday with them etc. This is the only drawback with being a driving instructor is that this does not happen. You don't see other instructors that much to get to know them that well and your customers go after they pass their test.

The pay varies from week to week. And as you pay a fixed franchise fee per week, it can either be a lot or very little so you need to plan well ahead. Time off is expensive as you still have to pay the franchise fee.

One way to avoid the franchise is to go on your own. There would still be costs but they would be reduced.
